BARBADOS IN SIGHT
Barbados in sight
Midday in France, 7 a.m. in Barbados, and White Dolphin is less than 80 miles from the finishing line. The organizers’ telephones are overheating and emails are being sent out like bullets shot from a machine-gun. Everything must be ready to welcome, with suitable pomp, the first arrival and probable winner of the Panerai Transat Classique 2012! But let’s not discount The Blue Peter until we’ve seen her stem cross the ultimate line moored in Carlisle Bay, in front of the Barbados Yacht Club and the Barbados Cruising Club. Only a few hours separate the leaders in corrected times and we’ll have to wait until the last moment to find out the winner of this spectacular event. White Dolphin is expected to arrive at 4 p.m. local time. She’ll sail into the Inner Basin, in front of Independence Square, at the heart of the Christmas celebrations in Bridgetown. Red Hackle and The Blue Peter will follow soon.
