Regata dei Tre Golfi
Tre Golfi Sailing Week 2022: from 14 to 21 May the great sailing will take place in Sorrento
Three new international regattas alongside the most beautiful “offshore classic” in the Mediterranean
The gulfs of Naples, Salerno and Gaeta are back as protagonists, from 14 to 21 May, for the Regata dei Tre Golfi, which in 2022 celebrates 67 years of life and success. Like the Giraglia and the Middle Sea Race, the “Mediterranean classic” organized by the Circolo del Remo and della Vela Italia in collaboration with the Italian Yacht Club, the Reale Yacht Club Canottieri Savoia, IMA, ORC, UVAI, AIVE, and with the sponsored by the FIV, it is one of the most popular and crowded offshore races on the competitive calendar, attracting the elite of international sailing.
Regata dei Tre Golfi-Twenty years ago, driven by the success of the event and the ever-increasing number of participants, the organizers decided to add inshore regattas to the offshore test, extending the duration of the event to a week: thus Tre Golfi Sailing Week was born.
Thanks to the beauty of a regatta course that is unique in the world, which winds around the most famous islands in the Mediterranean, and to a first-class welcome ashore, the Tre Golfi Sailing Week soon earned a place of honor in the sailing agenda of the most renowned teams, becoming a must-to-attend event.
For four years (2017-21) the Tre Golfi Sailing Week took place in Capri known as ROLEX CAPRI SAILING WEEK, confirming the prestige and the international appeal of an event which, despite the stop due to the pandemic, has grown exponentially. In fact, 130 were registered for the 2021 edition, a number which – for logistical reasons related to the capacity of the harbor of Capri – forced the organizers to extend the calendar, separating the Maxi fleet from the other yachts.
For 2022, Rolex confirms its presence alongside the Tre Golfi Sailing Week as an “official time piece”.
For these reasons, considering the forecast of 150 subscribers and the need to contain the event within 7 days, it was inevitable to look for a new location, able to satisfy both the logistical needs of such a large and varied fleet, and the expectations of owners, who have always been used to racing and staying in unique and iconic locations.
The choice naturally fell on the enchanting Sorrento, the gateway to the peninsula of the same name, which dominates the Gulf of Naples from a hill overlooking the sea. Although the sailing system of the Tre Golfi Week remains unchanged – respecting both the start and the course of the offshore test, and the competition area of the inshore regattas -, the 2022 edition will be full of interesting sporting innovations, including four racing events. very high profile:
● ORC Mediterranean Championship
● Campionato Nazionale del Tirreno
The numerous pre-registrations received from various countries and the enthusiasm with which the owners have welcomed the news are a certificate of trust for the organizers, who have strongly believed in the success of this new formula, capable of combining tradition and innovation while respecting values and of the heritage of the Tre Golfi Sailing Week. The Gulf of Naples is so dear to sailors that Nautor ‘Swan, in view of the numerous brand boats expected in the ORC and Maxi category, identifies the Tre Golfi Sailing Week as the inaugural stop of the Swan Mediterranean Series, the circuit of events in which the shipyard Finnish awards the best Swan in the Mediterranean.
