The Italian Minister for Transport and Infrastructures, Senator Altero Matteoli, officially opened
today Genoa 51st International Boat Show, which is being held at Fiera di Genova until Sunday 9
October. The Minister reached the fairground onboard a motor patrol of the Italian Harbour Offices – Coast
Guard. After being welcomed by Fiera di Genova and UCINA‟s top Managements, he inspected the
guard of honour and attended the flag hoisting ceremony.
The opening speeches were then given in the Liguria Room of Fieracongressi.
Fiera di Genova‟s recently-appointed new President, Ms Sara Armella, thanked the companies
and workers who over the years have contributed to making Genoa Boat Show “the largest and
most important one in the world”. Our main objectives this year have been to further strengthen
the business dimension of the Show, open it up to new business channels, and further integrating
it with the city life in order to attract an increasing number of people towards the Show itself and
sea culture as a whole”, stated Ms Armella. Talking about the future, Fiera di Genova‟s President
underlined the company‟s will to start growing again, thanks to a new industrial plan “focusing on
trade fair events, first and foremost on the Boat Show and Euroflora” but also – in the medium and
long term – through investments in other sectors, like shipping, logistics, and new technologies.
“We are already working on the construction of the new Eastern entrance and to increase the
versatility and functionality of the congress centre, which is a strategic element in the trade fair
sector”, continued Ms Armella. An equally strategic aspect for Fiera di Genova is the management
of the new docks: the Company is certain it can “offer a significant contribution” in its
management “in cooperation with Genoa Port Authority”; at the same time, Genoa fair & exhibition
centre also aims to reposition itself on the market as regards the organisation of sports, cultural
and entertainment events for the city and its surrounding areas.
