ROLEX GIRAGLIA 2019
ROLEX GIRAGLIA 2019: open for entries and Notice of Race online
There will be an innovation in edition number 67 of the Rolex Giraglia 2019 with the finish of the offshore race in the waters of the Principality of Monaco and plenty of news also in St Tropez
‘Offering an alternative finish for the Rolex Giraglia, as has already happened in the past, underlines its importance and unique nature, offering participants a change that contributes to the fascination of the finest offshore race in the Mediterranean’. With these words the President of the Yacht Club Italiano Nicolò Reggio, introducing the 2019 edition of the offshore classic which, now in its 67thedition, proposes an alternative course as has happened in the past. The Yacht Club Italiano and the Yacht Club de Monaco, twinned since 1996 to reinforce the relationship based on shared ideals of sailing, solidarity on the water and the competitive spirit, are taking the finish of the Rolex Giraglia back to Monte Carlo after five years.
In its long history, the Giraglia has started from Cannes, Le Lavandou, Toulon, Sanremo and St. Tropez; it has finished in: Monaco, Le Lavandou, St. Tropez, Toulon, Genoa and Sanremo. The distance of the long race remains 241 miles.
The 67th edition of the offshore classic organised by the Yacht Club Italiano with the collaboration in French waters of the Societé Nautique de Saint Tropez, will be held from June 9-11 with the coastal races in St Tropez and the start of the offshore St. Tropez-Giraglia-Monaco on Wednesday the 12th. As usual, there will also be the by now traditional Sanremo – St.Tropez race with its suggestive night start on June 7 organised in collaboration with the Yacht Club Sanremo.
Among the innovations, a “priority lane” for all yachts entering by March 31, 2019, both for the inshore races in St Tropez and the offshore St.Tropez – Giraglia – Genova; they will be guaranteed a priority mooring.
The final date for entries is May 15.
In addition to the purely technical innovations, in sporting terms too the Rolex Giraglia is an event not to be missed as the organisers strive to improve increasingly the technical and competitive level and, as a result, the spectacular nature of the event. As always, many high-performance yachts are expected thanks also to the support and involvement of the IMA, the International Association of Maxi Yachts, which has included the Rolex Giraglia in the nine races of the Mediterranean Maxi Offshore Challenge, and the Swan One Design Class (50’-45’-42’). In this case to the coastal races of the Rolex Giraglia will constitute a leg of The Nations Trophy Med League.
For the Maxi 72 and Swan One Design classes special and much more technical and spectacular upwind/downwind courses will be prepared off the beaches of Pampelonne while the big ORC and IRC fleets will sail their coastal races in the Bay of St Tropez.
