Onetangi Beach Race
World’s Largest Amphibious Event
Sunday Feb 19, Onetangi Beach located on beautiful Waiheke Island- just minutes from Auckland NZ, was the setting for the largest amphibious event in the world.
The Sealegs Amphibious race has become one of the major attractions at this long running event- with more than a dozen Sealegs entered in the race.
Due to the number of entries, this year’s race was run in two heats and a final – the start Le Mans style- required two launchings and two landings and a long stretch along the beach to the finish line, much to the delight of the spectators.
White water drenched the crews creating amphibious excitement for the large crowd on the beach and on the flotilla of ‘legless’ boats surrounding the course. Sealegs donated prizes to the winners including: Free power steering upgrade- Free Sealegs Service and free inflatable life jackets.
