In-water hanseboot opens its boardwalks

Hanseboot_2014The eighth hanseboot hall has no roof – it is the harbour basin of the City Marina at Baumwall, where the in-water hanseboot is held from 25 October to 2 November 2014. Builders and dealers from five countries have a total of four boardwalks to present their current sailing boat and motor boat models, and visitors can test drive used boats and visit training ships.

A free-of-charge shuttle bus service is provided to the in-water hanseboot at the City Marina, running at intervals of 20 to 30 minutes from 10:00 to 18:00 daily and from 10:00 to 20:00 on the Wednesday. It leaves the exhibition site at the departure point between Halls B5 and B6. On the way back, the shuttle buses stop at the Central Entrance, Messeplatz. For re-entry to the halls, visitors can simply collect a wristband from the porter at Gate B6 before leaving the site. Visitors who only want to see the boats and yachts in their element at the City Marina have free access to the in-water hanseboot.

Contest Yachts from the Netherlands are presenting their new Contest 42 CS at the hanseboot harbour – a modern, 12.85 metre sailing yacht with twin steering and a spacious aft cockpit, which can be specified as a family cruiser, performance cruiser or short-handed version.

CR & Regina Yachts from the Swedish boat building island of Henån are showcasing the new CR 480 DS, a 14.58m Stephen Jones design which can be specified with a choice of interiors as owner or crew version.

Gründl-Bootsimporte from Bönningstedt are presenting two new models from Jeanneau, France at the in-water hanseboot – the Sun Odyssey 469, a new 14m sailing yacht which is equally suitable either for holiday cruises with the family or for a racing crew; and the Velasco 43, a luxury flybridge motor yacht with length overall 13 metres.

The longest sailing yacht at the hanseboot harbour this year has an overall length of 16.90m and comes from the Netherlands, exhibited by K&M Yachtbuilders, Makkum. It is the Bestevaer 55 ST, an aluminium-hull boat for extended cruises, from the drawing board of leading designer Gerard Dijkstra & Partners.

The Oyster 54 from the UK is just half a metre shorter. Made by Oyster Yachts, Ipswich, it has clean lines, a sporting rig and a maximum of comfort and elegance above and below deck. This boat is the successor of the popular Oyster 53, and has an attractive design and increased sail area. Thanks to modern composite technology, it is a little lighter than its predecessor, despite a longer waterline.

Wessels Yachts, a Bremen-based dealer, are presenting as many as four current models before the imposing backdrop of Hamburg’s Speicherstadt (heritage warehouse district). They are the Bavaria 38 Sport, the Dufour 410 Grand Large and the Hatteras 65 Fisherman, and also a complete “living yacht”. The Wessels Yachts 42 features length overall 14 metres and beam width 5 metres. This sporting vessel has a float construction made of shipbuilding steel, with triple glazing and complete insulation. It has built-in bath and shower, and a purification system can be installed on request.

Hanse Yachts from Greifswald are presenting the Moody DS 54, a 16.30m deck saloon yacht, characterised by its convincing concept of “living on one level”, its striking design, variable layout, and good sailing characteristics. The closed deck saloon means that this yacht is also suitable for colder waters or for sailors who spend a lot of time on the water.

Futura Yacht Systems from Wannweil are presenting the new Futura 49, a 14.92m spacious, high-speed sailing catamaran. The special feature of this cat is its variable width, with a sophisticated sliding mechanism enabling it to fit into smaller moorings. The living space is exclusively in the large deckhouse, whereas the hulls are used purely as floats. The width of the cat can thus be reduced from 8m to 4.80m. This gives the best of both worlds – catamaran and monohull.

Two sail training / charter ships can be viewed at the in-water hanseboot, and even used for excursions by arrangement. The motor yacht Meri Leijona can be used as a floating classroom for the Elbe Night Trips run as part of the hanseboot academy by Well Sailing – it goes on exploration tours on the Elbe, with a maximum of eight participants per trip, from 19:00 to 20:30 in the evening (prior registration required at www.well-sailing.de/hanseboot).

Yachtcharter Harburg Thomas Quante present their 12.98m raised-deck yacht Biscaya built by Grubewerft Hamburg. It is a steel-hulled displacement vessel, powered by a 7.5 litre diesel engine from MAN; it is easy to handle, and is particularly suitable for charter cruises.
