GIRAGLIA ROLEX CUP

BRILLIANT SUNSHINE AND LIGHT BREEZES FOR THE FIRST DAY OF INSHORE RACES AT THE GIRAGLIA ROLEX CUP

The first day of inshore races at the Giraglia Rolex Cup, partnered by Rolex and organised by the Yacht Club Italiano and the  Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez, started in calm conditions with light breezes from the southeast that peaked at 9 knots. A parade of yachts of all sizes left the port by 10AM, ready to begin racing.

Racing was postponed until just before noon so the IRC and ORC B Classes raced on a shortened, 19nm course. IRC and ORC O and A Classes raced on a 32nm course while the ClubSwan 50 and 42 Classes did windward/leeward courses in the Pampelonne Bay.

The Yacht Club Italiano’s Race Committee set up a spectacular finish right in front of the port of Saint-Tropez, much to the delight of the megayachts in the bay. Cannon shots saluted the first placed yachts in each Class in real time which were: Alex Schaerer’s Maxi 72 Caol Ila in Group O, Vadim Yakimenko’s TP52 Freccia Rossa in Group A and Frantz Philippe’s Mumm 36 Absolutely in Group B. I primi tre classificati nella Class ClubSwan 42 erano Natalia, Kuujjuaq e Raving Swan mentre nella Class ClubSwan 50 i primi erano Mathilde, Earlybird e Ulika.
