Frauscher’s new shipyard – growth and new ideas necessitate
change of location
Due to expansion, Frauscher Shipyard is opening a new
shipyard on a 35,000 m² site in Steyrermühl, Austria.

Steyrermühl, 19th
October 2012:
With a tradition of innovative ideas,  precision craftsmanship and a
passion for boats that goes back  85 years, Frauscher is meanwhile
a major player in international boat  construction and sales. Constant
analysis of work processes and  fast identification of potentials for
improvement are firmly grounded in  the corporate philosophy and were
also a factor in the company’s  decision to expand its facilities. The
shipyard was designed by  arge.ateliers of Gmunden and
planned in coordination with  Porsche Consulting over a period
of two years. The production area  of 3,000 m² is perfect for the
future-oriented projects of  Frauscher Shipyard, which
together with the reorganised  production processes will open the
way for the construction of bigger  seagoing boats. The relocation of
production and administration to  the same premises will intensify
communication between the two  areas to enable even higher
precision in the work processes and improved quality controls
during construction of the boats. With the new shipyard and a future-oriented company strategy  Frauscher responds to the increasing importance of the  market on the Mediterranean coast by shifting its focus to the versatility of its motor, electric and sailing boats and their outstanding handling characteristics in any water. Frauscher’s universal focus is reinforced by the new sales location that opened in 2012 at  the elegant harbour of Porto  Adriano at Mallorca, which allows  customers to test drive the boats at sea. While Frauscher Shipyard  will increasingly concentrate on new  developments of seagoing boats, the harbour in Gmunden/Weyer and the facilities there will be maintained; remodelling and expansion of the existing buildings is already in planning. The planned growth target for the business year 2012/13 of 10% includes all business sectors: electric, motor and sailing boats.  With annual turnover of  8 million Euro in the last business year Frauscher Shipyard was able to further boost its position in boat construction and sales.

“We combine traditional craftsmanship with modern technology, and
all of our employees are dedicated boat experts with exceptional expertise. That is our strength.”
And that is the bottom line, according to managing partner Stefan Frauscher. Frauscher Shipyard, with 34 employees, is one of Austria’s biggest independent shipyards. 40% of turnover is achieved with electric boats, 55% with motor boats and 5% with sailing boats. The company’s newest creation is the 1017 Lido, the versatile and “open-hearted” sister of the 1017 GT, which was filmed in a daring duel with stunt flying champion Hannes Arch and his plane on Lake Traunsee for the ad “Meet Me At The Lake”. Another Frauscher boat caused a sensation in the final James Bond ad for the new Xperia smartphone from Sony. The Frauscher 717 GT allows the hero’s successful pursuit of the new smartphone in full splendour and at full speed.
