In Match Race Germany 2016 they challenge prominent grandmasters of duel sailing, such as the America’s Cup semi-finalists Karol Jablonski (POL / GER) or the Polish team around skipper Przemyslaw Tarnacki (POL). “You can imagine it as if America’s Cup teams would directly hit the best young sailors from the Youth America’s Cup,” states sporting director Eberhard Magg one month before the first starting gun will be fired for Match Race Germany on May 12th at 9:00.
Skipper Tarnacki, whose father was among the first participants in the Whitbread Round the World Race has big plans for his efforts, because he was not satisfied with ninth place in the 18th Match Race Germany. This is also Vladimir Lipavsky view of things and recent development “match racing on monohulls is the only way to stage real duels because multihulls do not deliver real match racing because they simply are not maneuverable enough. In other words: multihulls make definitely fun to sail and they are spectacular, but do not serve the match racing discipline “Lipavskys Objective:”. We will do everything possible to reach the semifinals. For me it was always a dream to compete in this true match raceing classic here. ”
Among the hungry climbers there is the 23-year-old Tour de France-a la Voile helmsman. Nelson Mettraux, brother of well-known Mettraux sisters Justine and Elodie-Jane from the Volvo Ocean Race , who sailed around the world with the SCA-all female team.
