The new MD51 Power, an evolution under the banner of technological innovation that has always marked Maxi Dolphin yacht has been presented in detail to the international boating world .

This new version of the MD51 Power, designed by Roberto Starkel, re-interprets the Erbusco-based boatyard’s philosophy of producing entirely custom-built motoryachts.

Here, Maxi Dolphin combines the designer style typical of MDs with advanced technological research. The result is a motoryacht with a sporty image and with the capability to handle all electric, electronic and info-tainement devices through an Apple iPad. This sophisticated system has been developed for the first time by Maxi Dolphin in collaboration with Varesequadri, a company leader in naval electronics.

EXTERIOR

What’s new about this version of the MD51 Power is its more sporty look, achieved by reviewing some of the components, such as the introduction of large carbon fibre inserts on the hull’s sides, in contrast with the metal blue paintwork. The windscreen has been redesigned and extended towards the stern, with remodelled lines compared to the previous versions. The ventilation grilles on the transom have been enlarged to highlight the boat’s power. The bow nose has built-in LED navigation lights and the single driver’s seat, all in carbon fibre, has the shape of a capsule.

The graphic layout of the helm station has also been restyled with analogue and digital gauges.

The cockpit features a pantograph table and bulwark seats, with storage space for two water scooters and diving gear for four people. A side deck, which has the crew cabin underneath, links the cockpit to the deck; here a large rectangular hatch floods of light the living area. An additional semicircular window, placed just below the windscreen, guarantees light to the galley.

TECHNOLOGY

Maxi Dolphin joined forces with Varesequadri, specialist in naval electronics, to develop, at owner’s specific request, the first Apple iPad to control all the boat’s electronics and infotainement devices. The iPad is programmed to become a sophisticated remote control: it links up to a sophisticated system and, through dedicated pages, it accesses to all onboard utilities. The use of CAN-bus technology saves weight thanks to the elimination of large cables.

INTERIOR

The interior layout is based on the open-space concept. The carbon fibre, used for the companionway’s steps, the skirting boards, the washbasin and the centre table, enhances the motoryacht’s sporty look. The spacious galley is made from a single sheet of polished stainless steel. In front of it is a bar counter with ice-maker and temperature-controlled wine cellar. Two full-height cupboards separate the galley from the living area, which is

furnished with a spacious C-shaped sofa. The table is electrically operated and can be lowered to become a comfortable double bed.

As for all Maxi Dolphin’s motor yachts, this new MD51 Power is entirely built using Sprint carbon fibre and glass, allowing for an extremely sturdy boat, yet very lightweight. Consequently it has been possible to mount less powerful engines than on a typical vessel of this size, considerably reducing fuel consumption. The MD51 Power is powered by two 435HP Volvo Penta IPS 600 engines, a revolutionary system of propulsion providing an amazing increase in efficiency compared to inboard systems, a higher top speed, better acceleration and superior performance.
