MAREX 440 GOURMET CRUISER
Marex Boats continues to be a trendsetter in the family boat industry, unveiling its new flagship, the Marex 440. It is a new generation of cruisers with contemporary design lines and several innovations. With a length of 13.70 metres and a maximum beam of 4.27 metres, the Norwegian shipyard continues implementing innovative, practical onboard solutions, focusing on ergonomics, comfort and safety for the whole family.
Concept overview
Marex 440 Gourmet Cruiser results from the collaboration between the Marex in-house design team and Slovenian studio VOM Creations Yacht Design. Naval architecture was provided by Nikl Design and Engineering by Alpha Creations.
The new Marex has two modifications: the 440 Gourmet Cruiser with an enormous U-shaped kitchen layout and the 440 Scandinavia version with a second dining in the enclosed salon.
“Our new 440 GC is the natural evolution of a Marex range”, comments Espen Aalrud, CEO of Marex. “The exterior of the Marex 440 has a dynamic and modern look, but we wanted to keep our shipyard DNA very carefully”.
“The fundamental idea is to create a family boat focusing on easy living and have the cruise experience of a much larger vessel. The biggest kitchen in its class, beach club next to the water, two bathrooms, and a washer machine are examples of this idea”, – adds Aalrud.
Cockpit
The Marex 440 GC provides clever onboard spaces while creating a relaxed social atmosphere. The cockpit features a huge U-shaped sofa with generous storage under it and a table for up to 8 persons. When the table is folded out, it is possible to accommodate with the second sofa up to 12 people around the table. Also, the table can be lowered, converting this space into a large sunpad or a sleeping bed.
The significant highlight is the bar counter, which connects the salon and cockpit into one open social area for guests to enjoy. The Gourmet Cruiser version can optionally get a sliding salon door and an electrically retractable window.
Canopy solution
The Marex 440 GC has the fastest and easiest way to close the open cockpit deck existing in the market.
The curtains are hidden in the targa arch and slide around like a curtain. The canopy can be fastened with just ONE single grip. No buttons or rubber bands. From an open cruiser to a closed boat in less than a minute! This solution allows air-conditioning (or heating) throughout the deck, making the 440 Gourmet Cruiser suitable for every climate.
Kitchen
One of the 440 Gourmet Cruiser’s innovations is its kitchen. Marex created a chef’s dream with an enormous U-shaped kitchen layout – the largest in its class. It features an oven/microwave, double sink, induction cooker and a dishwasher. It also has an opening on the countertop to store four beer/ drink cases of 24 boxes each. The number of drawers and cupboards for kitchen tools and provisions is overwhelming.
The 440 Scandinavia version can have an additional dining area with a big sofa and two retractable stools instead of a portside kitchen.
The solar panels provide enough capacity to keep the 220-litre refrigerator and 100-litre freezer running permanently without shore power.
Helm and co-pilot seating
The 440’s helm station is fitted with three 12-inch screens that monitor engines, navigation and even the anchoring process, with an additional surveillance camera. The anchoring typically requires a family member to monitor, but the captain can do it alone in this boat.
Helm seats are adjustable, allowing plenty of flexibility, thanks to a sliding function.
A sofa opposite the helm lets the whole family enjoy the cruising view. A foldable table creates a portable office or breakfast area.
The 440 has two side doors. This allows freedom of movement for the captain and passengers, also letting in a fresh breeze. Together with an open sunroof, this increases cruising enjoyment enormously.
Lower deck
The Marex 440 Gourmet Cruiser is available with two, or three-cabin layouts. The two-cabin solution has a forward Master Cabin with a large 1,70 x 2,00 m bed and a generous bathroom with a separate shower. The second guest cabin comes with an en-suite bathroom, a 1,80 x 2,00 m bed, a comfortable sofa along the window line, a changing room area at the entrance and can be delivered with a laundry machine (washer/dryer).
The three-cabin layout includes a Master Cabin with its bathroom and two twin cabins with shared bathroom/head.
Both layouts have many storage solutions, with the forward cabin featuring hanging cabinets and drawers on each side of the 1.70 x 2.00 metre bed, plus additional space under the mattress. Large hull windows and three skylights provide beautiful views and let in plenty of natural light.
Foredeck and swim platform
Marex has brought the beach club idea to the family boats. The platform has a large sitting area for enjoying the closeness to the sea. A hydraulically operated swim platform features optional steps when submerged, making getting in and out of the water safe. That makes 440 a perfect boat for extended family holidays on the water.
Marex 440 has a lot of practicality, such as generous storage space for fenders, gas bottles and mooring equipment under the benches at the stern. Also, the platform has an integrated davits system, which allows one to lift and carry a tender during cruising.
The 440’s bow area features a large sunbed with cupholders and “chaise-longue mode” thanks to the lift-up seat back. The waterproof mattress can be unzipped and float on water, serving as a water toy and carrying several people on the water.
Propulsion and technology
The 440 can be equipped with a pair of Volvo Penta engines: 2 x Volvo Penta D6-440HP DPI Sterndrive,
2 x Volvo Penta D6-480HP IPS-650 or
2 x Volvo Penta D6-480HP V-Drive.
An optional large generator and gyroscopic stabiliser maximise cruising comfort.
The fuel tanks (2 x 595 L), water tank of 780 L, battery capacities (8 x AGM 100 Ah + EXIDE 60Ah for generator) and optional solar panels make a boat perfect for extended family holidays on the water.
