NUVA MS6-MOTOR SAILER

Nuva_Yacht_Yachting Pleasure
– NUVA MS6 is a unique Motor Sailer concept of reduced dimensions – 5,99
meters in length. It’s bold and innovative design stands out due to its polyvalence and easy handling. This new concept will allow you to discover and enjoy each of the facets of recreational boating.
The production of the NUVA MS6 will start shortly in Barcelona and the prototype will be presented for the first time at the Palma Boat Show from the 28th of April to the 2nd of May of 2016.
1. Engineering, design and functionality of an innovative concept
The main goal has been to design a vessel that allows both amateur and advanced sailors to enjoy it in equal measure. Its reduced size and easy handling allows the enjoyment of the various modalities of nautic leisure: sailing, speed boating, anchoring and making the most of it’s spacious solarium.
The key in this project has been to Create a light, transportable, easy to rig boat while keeping it simple and manoeuvrable for a beginner. Besides being unsinkable, the boat will allow you to anchor in minimum depths and hibernate without the need of a dock as the keel is retractable. With this our aim is to
guarantee a great nautic experience in the sea and inland waters as you’ll have the freedom to easily switch from the engine to the sail depending of your needs.
Finally, we have focused on what is one of the most important aspects of boating: sharing our best moments with our most beloved. Our original extendable cockpit benches included in our NUVA MS6 Plus option provides a surprising beam in a boat of it’s length including a cabin where two persons can sleep comfortably.
2. Unique and distinguishing thanks to a vision and experience
The first motorized sailing beat of the range, the NUVA MS6, has been designed by a team of experts from Barcelona Yacht Design (BYD) applying innovative solutions and adapting to the vision of NUVA’s founder.
The complete spec table is attached to this press release. The results have to be considered as provisional.
When sailing, we must highlight the following characteristics:
– Oval shaped carbon mast, including a spreader. Allows the rig of a gennaker or sail exclusively with main sail. The vessel reaches 5 / 6 knots and provides agile reactions in light winds from 8 knots. The mast lightness easies the maneuver of rigging and unrigging to tow it. To develop the rigging system we’ve collaborated with Tack Velas.
– Advanced technical design of a vertical stern in order to maximize the floating lenght, a wide beam of 2,45m which, with the optional of MS6 Plus, extends to 3,45m providing you the feeling of a beam proper of much bigger length yachts. The flat hull and the high freeboard combine performances which gather the maximum stability, safety and comfort.
– A fully retractable keel with bulb, mostly seen in boats with bigger lengths, has required a technical and innovative deployment. Vertically retractable and with electrical activation, allows the reduction of the draft as the bulb stays totally integrated in the hull.
– Our own engineers developed a system to easily and quickly install and uninstall the rudder, as well to store it in the deck.
– Peter Meyer supported Nuva with his expertise, adding valuable feedback not only on the sailing area but on the entire project. Peter adds: “We are happy to support Nuva Yachts with their new project and idea on details. In stream lined times it is great to see companies trying new concepts to get the sailing community freshened up.”
For the engine we have worked closely with the Spanish branch of Yamaha Europe in order to choose the right the power unit and helix that suits the project best. The choice of Yamaha as the ideal partner for the engine has been based on their prestige and leadership in this terrain. With the outboard Yamahas, NUVA shares the same values that define the quality of the product: innovation, reliability and performance.
The engine selected for the MS6 prototype is the new 16 valve F70 that runs at (4 strokes / 4 cylinders). It incorporates the SOHC (Single OverHead Camshaft) technology that achieves the best power/weight relation of it’s range. Furthermore, it stands out for its lightness, low consumption and reduced noise levels. Andrés Cárdenas, NUVA CEO, adds: “Collaborating with Yamaha Spain allows us to offer Technical Assistance in Spain in more than 60 points. Thanks to this collaboration, the client will also be able to acquire our models through the Yamaha Spain network. The NUVA MS6 will include the engine already installed and ready to use. For anchoring, special attention has been put into the cockpit spaces that will optionally include extensible benches or a second solarium that joins the one in the foredeck. The interior layout includes a comfortable bed and a chemical toilet.
3. A professional team always available
The project is in a final phase of fine tuning the prototype that has been in testing for the last 18 months. It has been developed entirely from the unique and experienced vision of its founder Andrés Cárdenas. His proven experience in boating design and construction, as worldwide CEO of Bavaria Yachtbau in Germany (global leader of motor and sailing boats) and Rodman.
Andrés Cárdenas will lead as CEO and Founder a reduced team of trusted collaborators. David Almeida as Managing Director with a broad experience in Project Direction at adidas HQ will provide creative ideas and innovative solutions. NUVA is currently selecting providers and defining the production processes for chain fabrication as well as choosing the commercial distribution network.
